THE ROUTES OF ELIMINATION
Every day cells will try to cleanse themselves of the waste products from metabolism. The body renews many bllions of cells each day, the dead cells create a huge load of debris, much of which is toxic. The body recycles what is useful, and the elimination organs must then excrete the waste to prevent a buildup of toxicity. If this mucous is not removed, the body will be forced to dump and store the waste. Initially sacrifcing the least important tissues to protect the more vital functions, but if the process is allowed to continue, more and more important organs will become toxic, and their functional capabilities compromised.
The bodies comfortable and main route of elimination is :-
The Cells discharge their waste into the Lymph.
Then the Lymph drains into the Blood.
Then the Blood is filtered by the Liver.
The Liver processes the various toxic elements and puts them in the Bile.
The Bile is stored in the Gall Bladder, before being released into the Small Intestines.
As the Bile travels through the small and large intestines it combines with roughage from food to form the faeces.
As much as 95% of the bile, and its toxicity, will be reabsorbed, during the transit of the faeces. Poor quality roughage and bowel imbalances such as constipation and slow transit will result in a higher level of reabsorption and self-intoxification.
The process is completed when the faeces leaves the body.
Stagnation can occur at any point in the process and may require assistance to maintain movement. It is here that the naturopathic techniques are invaluable, helping to keep the process flowing.
A healing crisis is simply the routes of elimination are overloaded. Often the liver is the bottle neck, and the toxicity backs up to the blood and then into the lymph. When the liver becomes overloaded, the body will try eliminate through the skin, which may result in a variety of skin issues. If the toxicity levels are still high, this is when the kidney's and lung's may be challenged. Everything should be done to avoid this situation, as the symptoms can be very unpleasant and dangerous.
When the blood has high levels of toxicity we may experience symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, low blood sugar, inability to control eating, skin erruptions etc.
When the Lymph becomes thicker due to a build up of toxic sludge we may experience symptoms such as colds, flus, swollen glands, sore throats, fevers, achy joints, lethargy etc.
It is important to understand that any therapy that is 'working', will almost always produce a healing crisis of some degree. This should be viewed favourably. But the key issue is how the healing crisis is nursed. If the healing crisis is handled properly, and the released mucous is removed from the body healing has taken place. However if the acute symptom of the Healing Crisis is suppressed, we effectively lock the toxicity into the body and the healing crisis then becomes a disease crisis.
When nursing a healing crisis, there is no substitute for experience. This is the true art of healing.
