BLOOD SUGAR
Blood sugar metabolism is a huge subject and this page can provide only the briefest glimpse.
Unstable Blood Sugar Levels, is the physical manifestation that runs through, and holds many disease conditions in place, in fact it is the direct cause of many conditions. Events such as migrane attacks, epileptic fits, asthma attacks etc, only occur when the blood sugar levels are at their lowest.
Several generations ago doctors knew that a vast array of symptoms were the result of low blood sugar, from insomnia, to alcoholism, to panic attacks, to fainting and blackouts, to food cravings, to low body temperature, anything near the full list would require many pages.
The brain and nervous system's fuel source is glucose, and there is simply no adequate substitute. The brain is the first organ to be affected by low blood sugar levels. This helps explain, why we become irritable, the huge swings in mood and personality, the anger outbursts etc, when our blood sugar levels are challenged.
Because of the fundamental requirements to maintain blood sugar levels the body has incredibly complex mechanisms to regulate levels. When these mechanisms can not achieve stable levels, we are forced to service our own blood sugar. This is when we are vulnerable to over eating, convenience eating, inapropriate alcohol use, smoking abuse, drug abuse, anything that will spike the blood sugar. This is of course the start of the spike and crash roller-coaster.
Often we will use substances that can be absorbed through the mucosa of the mouth, which provides rapid access to the blood stream by avoiding the digestive process. Absorption problems often lead people to using this method which quickly spike's the blood sugar level's before crashing, which in turn can lead to addictions.
When the the blood sugar levels are spiked, the body must try to counter balance the situation, high blood sugar levels can be as dangerous as low levels. Insulin is the mechanism the body uses to reduce blood sugar levels. When an imbalance between circulating insulin levels and blood sugar levels exist, the scene is set for the spike and crash roller coaster that is the corner stone of so many problems. When the blood sugar crashes and someone resorts to their fix, be it chocolate, alcohol or whatever, this can often contribute to self esteem issues, self hate, feelings of helplessness, depressions etc. This can further complicate the matter and the produced SUBCONSCIOUS paterns that may require attention.
Recent generations have been exposed to de-natured, highly processed foods and refined sugar. Unnatural substances that really should not be called food. This has resulted in generations of overfed and under-nourished people. One of the mainfestations produced by using most of these items, is the body responds by releasing large quantities of insulin. Excess circulating insulin as shown above is the problem, resulting in the core issue, 'The Spike and Crash Cycle'.
Blood sugar regulation is a complex matter involving many issues and bodily systems, but the main issues are
Appropriate diet/fluids - not to over challenge insulin release
Pancreas function - suitable insulin production
Thyroid function - cellular insulin/glucose resistance
Pituitary function - appropriate hunger signals
Adrenal function - glucose metabolism
Liver Function - glucose metabolism
Lifestyle - stress increases glucose metabolism
